Follow me

I have been enjoying my new journey towards a new career and also taking some time for me! Time to reflect and time to just relax.

I’m so happy you have chosen to join me on my new journey. Baby steps, sometimes that’s all it takes.

Leader of the pack

Once they sorted out the “pack order” it was a walk in the park.

Great day out on the shoes, so much beauty right in my own backyard.

Quinoa and sweet potatoe cakes…the finale

So here is the final product! One of my all time favourite meals (and there is usually leftovers for the days to follow).

I like to make this a “meatless Monday” meal but it is great whenever you feel like a delicious change.

Follow the link below for the recipe.

The aioli is simple to make as well, 1/2 cup of egg free mayonnaise, 1/2 tsp of paprika, 5 garlic cloves minced and some freshly squeezed lemon juice (2tbs but I just squeeze a bunch in until I’m done), and I personally like like to add some cayenne pepper for a little kick, about 1/2tsp. Mix up ingredients in the food processor and voila, you have lemon and garlic aioli!!! Mmmmm.

Why getting outdoors is so great for your overall health

I keep saying how great I think getting outdoors is for your mind and body.

But why?

Getting outdoors is beneficial to your health for so many reasons, it increases Vitamin D levels, helps relieve stress, helps with sleep deprivation and much, much more. Here is a quick “snapshot” of some of the benefits of being outdoors.

To take a further look into the benefits of getting outdoors I encourage you to take a look at this great article outlining the many reasons getting outdoors and being one with nature is so important to ones overall well being.

Stealing snowflakes from the sky

Took some time tonight to hit the trails and play in the snow.

Had a great time while out for a little snowshoe with the family. I highly recommend a “pit stop” to stop and take it all in and steal a few snowflakes from the sky 😉❄️.

Get outdoors, I can’t stress it enough how beneficial this is to ones overall health. There are so many fun winter time activities that you can take up and enjoy alone or with the whole family.

Snowshoeing is one of my favourites and I would say one of the easiest workouts on the body. I like to consider it a massage, time to let my muscles recover from my previous fitness routines while burning some calories and toning the whole body along the way.

Enjoy life, you only get one shot at it.

Second thought

It’s Monday and that means back to the grind known as life.

Today started as one of those days where you think to yourself “I should really go back to bed”. After the coffee eruption, the near fall on our iced over driveway and then being late for work due to getting stuck  behind two school buses because I was running behind due to the coffee issue, I finally got to my cubicle.

While sitting at my desk I decided I needed to shut my brain down tonight so, movie and couch kind of evening with the hubby it was going to be. It sounds funny but this is what was keeping me going at work, the thought of relaxing with my man and dog while taking in a flick.

All that aside, it is also one of those days where I needed to go for a walk on my lunch break. During that walk I ended up where I currently am, at the local Second Cup Coffee Shop, listening to other people talk about all their ups and downs. While taking it all in I realize, maybe a rough start to my Monday morning isn’t as bad as I thought.

The lady beside me is talking about how her son is currently being assessed for a learning disability and how her good friend can’t find work and the other lady is talking about how she herself can’t secure a job and how things are tough in her life at the moment.

It makes me stop for a moment and think about all the good I have in my life. I have a good job, I’m able to pursue my passion for nutrition and wellness to focus on a new career avenue, I have a loving husband, great home and a family that is all doing well (oh and in addition to my niece and nephew I already have and love, we will be welcoming a new baby into the family soon, my little bro and his wife are due in March).

Anyway, I realize how minor all my little mishaps were from this morning and I am feeling glad that I stepped out and went for a walk and coffee break (even if it is -15 outside). I am a strong believer in stepping away from your desk (if you have the opportunity to). It always allows you to clear the brain and reset your mindset so you can go back to the office refreshed and ready to finish the day.

So really, coming to Second Cup for a top up of coffee allowed me to gather my “second thought” and head back to finish my day knowing that even with the little detours I don’t have it that bad.

Now I just need to get on that whole registering for my diploma program at Alive Academy so that I can work towards my “second career” ;).

Be realistic

Being “real” with yourself is a great way to make sure you meet your goals.

I love how this lady works. She understands that not everyone can spend their days cooking, working out and worrying about every little thing they eat or do.

Why not try out one of her new online programs?

I’m sure there is one that would fit in perfectly with your busy lives.

Double day

What a great weekend enjoying the beautiful northern Ontario outdoors and all that nature has to offer.

Always fun to get out on the old “misery sticks” with some friends, followed up with some stretching and nothing beats a relaxing snowshoe to top it all off.

I always say, get outdoors and make the most of your free time! Great way to clear the mind, relieve stress all while making some great memories.

In health and happiness 🙂
