Shake it up

Protein shakes are a delicious way to give your body the boost it needs and a great way to start your day off on the right foot.

Why not give it a try. Be sure to use protein powder that has ingredients that you can pronounce and that provides at least 20-25 grams of protein per scoop.

You can pretty much put anything you want in them, but, be sure to keep it healthy. Berries, kale, avacado, rolled oats, hemp hearts are just a few of my favourite ingredients to add, but feel free to “shake it up” and create something truly delicious and healthy.

And they have arrived

My first set of text books arrived. Not going to lie, this is a little intimidating to say the least but I’m looking forward to hitting the books and kick starting my brain again.

Back to the books


I finally registered myself in the Applied Nutrition Diploma Program at Alive Academy. Took me a bit longer then planned but sometimes life gets in the way and plans don’t always come together as fast as you would have hoped.

I am looking forward to hitting the books and learning all I can about living a holistic life.

I will be sure to keep posting updates along my journey. Here’s to new beginnings.

One of those weekends

What a great weekend!

I find that I am often guilty of getting caught up in focusing on the negative things that have happened in my life or that are going on around me that I forget to take a breath and just enjoy the good things.

Over this past weekend we celebrated my husbands 33rd birthday. We spent Friday night at the family cottage with family and friends and then we took off for a relaxing evening at a little inn called Sir Sam’s Inn. Our room had a great view of a local beautiful lake and included a whirl pool bath and wood burning fireplace. We finally got to just put our feet up, sit back and just relax.

Being away and not having to focus on what we had to do next also allowed us to re-connect and talk about all the good and positive things in our lives. We talked about us, what we see coming up in the future and we really just took time to just be…no expectations or stressors lurking in the back of our minds.

I truely believe that sometimes you just need to take some time for yourself to unwind and unplug.

I have really been focusing on this as of late and I have been making a concious effort to take some me time, and doing my best to not feel guilty about it. It’s OK to think about the negative things that might be going on around you, that is just human nature to do so, but you can’t let it consume you. Sometimes you just need to get away (even if it is just for few short hours) and just breath and stop to think about all the good in your life. Maybe it’s as simple as starting a gratitude journal in which you take some time at the end of each day to jot down 3  things that you are great-full for or maybe you have more free time and can get away on a yoga retreat with a friend or by yourself to just unwind. Whatever it may be, realize when you need to “unplug” and take some time for yourself. Know that this is OK, not selfish, and that it is needed in order to regroup and reconnect with the world around you while gathering your personal thoughts and establishing your goals.

A great little spot that you may want to visit in order to relax and regroup, if you’re in the area, is Sir Sam’s Inn. This is a quiet and relaxing place where you won’t have any trouble just letting go and taking some “you” time.

The photo below was taken while my husband and I were out enjoying a great X-country ski at Moose Woods, a small, volunteer ran ski trail system in Haliburton, ON. This was a quaint, little warming hut along the trails that had a nice fire place going and hot chocolate ready to be enjoyed ❤️☕️. Great spot to get fit and unwind!
